Five Warnings of Hiring a Custom Resume Writer
Many people who are looking for a job often hire a professional writer to write a custom written resume for them. There can be many problems with this. Here are five things to consider when it comes to hiring a custom resume service.
- Your resume is supposed to sell you. When you hire a resume writing service it is common for the writer to know nothing about you. How can a professional write a selling piece on you if they don’t know you? You may even speak to the writer on the phone, through email, or even in person. This still doesn’t mean they know you. Do you really want a professional document designed to sell you written by someone who really knows nothing about you? Most writers cannot write a resume to match the style of the person requesting the custom written resume.
- Resume writing services often produce textbook style resumes that are boring and not appropriate for you. The last thing you want is line items of your previous jobs that just talk about what you did when you worked there. Your job title will tell the employer everything. Many custom resume writers are too professional and the resume looks great to them but it looks exactly the same as the other applicants as well.
- The writer may not understand the industry or know anything about it. If you have worked the last 10 years in various positions in the technology industry and the writer knows nothing about computer systems and servers then how can they write about projects you have completed? The writer may write incorrect information that isn’t even possible. They may leave out details on projects also.
- Mistakes and errors lead to loss of credibility and loss of an interview. When you hire a professional for custom written resumes you should get one. Often times, people end up with resumes with grammatical mistakes and even misspellings. This is not impressive to an employer and it could cost you that high paying position you have been trying to land for months.
- Some custom resume writing services design the resume around the specific job you are applying for. Most people design a resume based on the specifics of an open position’s job description. The problem is that the employer really doesn’t know what you are capable of doing or what your talents and achievements really are. The custom resume writer need to be able to highlight your achievements and make you the best for the job without copying a job description for the job.
